Is it worth flying over to Hungary for the treatment?
Hungary has developed to be the most popular destination for dental tourists for several reasons: the dental surgeries are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, dentists have excellent qualifications and expertise, prices are very reasonable as labour costs and overheads are lower than in Western Europe and we have the traditional client-centred attitude in dental care.
Besides the huge savings on your dental treatment costs you will have the chance to link your treatment with a lovely city break; Budapest has a lot to offer to (dental tourists): wonderful sights, museums, spas, excellent food, bars, concerts and many other attractions. If you like arts and history just walking in the streets is a great experience as Budapest has a very elegant and traditional atmosphere.
The dental trip is ideal for patients who are anxious about dental treatment: until the very last moment you are preparing for a journey and not for dental care. And once you have arrived, there will be so many new impressions and experiences that the whole procedure seems less scary. Our staff is very helpful, supporting and understanding so we will help you overcome all your fears and worries.
What are the treatment conditions in Budapest?
Hungary has an international reputation for high-level dental and medical care; at our practice we use cutting-edge technology and of course hygiene conditions are impeccable. The surgery is in the very centre of the city by the river Danube opposite the Parliament building, so you can take a nice walk and have some sightseeing whenever you can get out of the dental chair. (You may check the address in the map: 71 Fő street, Budapest 1027.)
Please check the Surgeries page for photos of our practice; we hope that you will like the environment.
What happens after my plane lands at Budapest Airport?
Our colleague will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel. (S)he will meet you there before your appointments to drive you to the dental surgery and we will give you a mobile phone so that we can stay in touch for local phone charges. You can call us if you need any help or you get lost; we provide full assistance during your stay.
How painful is it to get a dental implant?
Not at all. The whole procedure takes about 15 minutes (if you have one implant fitted), you will not feel any pain – just the slight vibration for a few seconds in the jawbone when the dentist places the screw. One of our patients explained that if you expect the pain level to be 100, you will realise that it is actually 5.
For implant treatment our dentists use the latest comfort control electronic syringe, which has a very tiny needle, much smaller than normal syringes and provides a flow of anaesthetic ahead of the needle – so that you can hardly feel it at all. When the needle is in it provides a slow and steady flow of anaesthesia into the tissue, which is absolutely pain-free, allows the dentist to set a constant level of anaesthesia and keep a continuous control over it.
What is the procedure for implanted teeth?
A dental implant is made of titanium and shaped like a screw. The implant is placed into the jawbone and serves as a secure root for the new tooth. Once in place, the implant can be used to attach different types of dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges or dentures. Since the implants are anchored into the jawbone, they function as natural teeth when you are chewing, talking and laughing. Most people do not feel any difference between their natural teeth and their new ones.
When you have the implant, it will be a small operation taking about 15 minutes. As implants are installed under local anaesthesia, you will not feel any pain during the surgery. The treated area may be swollen for a few days afterwards, which can be slightly unpleasant. In most cases an ordinary painkiller on the day is all you may need to feel fine. After the necessary 3 months healing period you can have the dental crown/bridge fitted on the implant; in the healing period you can have a denture or a temporary crown to give you a proper smile.
What is the procedure in case of crowns and bridges?
When preparing crowns and bridges the dentist shaves off the surface of the teeth and takes impressions for the dental technicians, who will prepare the new teeth.
Crowns and bridges are prepared in a dental laboratory in 3-5 working days. For this period we prepare temporary plastic crowns/bridges for you. In most cases we will ask you to see the technicians in order to select the best matching shade for your new crowns and bridges; our colleagues will drive you to the laboratory and assist you in the process. The technicians will be happy to meet you there and choose the ideal shade with the shade guide they use. In case you have any special requirements, ideas or requests with regards to the shade or the shape of your new teeth, please feel free to discuss it with them and also with the dentist. In case of full front reconstruction you may prepare with some photos or pictures to show us what Perfect Smile means for you. The shape and the form of your new teeth is mostly determined by your bite, the size and structure of your jawbone and many other factors but we will do our best to take your expectations into consideration and meet your requirements.
After fitting the new crowns and bridges the dentist adjusts the bite so that biting and chewing should be absolutely comfortable.
I have got very ugly and misaligned teeth; I want to get all of them taken out and replaced with nice new teeth.
It is absolutely unnecessary to extract any healthy teeth; no dentist would do that. Misaligned teeth can be corrected with veneers; they are thin porcelain shells crafted to the surface of the teeth to change their shape and colour. Most perfect, bright, Hollywood-smiles are veneer smiles – you can also have it!
How painful root canal treatment is?
Root canal filling is a routine procedure; the dentist fills the nerve channels to save the tooth and prevent any bacteria getting to the root of the tooth and the jawbone. Many people have bad experiences about the procedure from the past; some patients have told us horror stories about this procedure from 20-30 years ago. Those days dentists had no equipment to locate the position of the nerves exactly but now we have a special apex locator that provides the dentist all the information they need during the procedure. The machine works with an accuracy rate of 97.5%, so the root canal procedure can be performed with an extremely high success rate for our patients’ best safety.
What guarantees do I get for the treatment?
For implants the producers give 10 years guarantee, which does not mean that they will come out or fail after that period – just as if you buy a car with 3 years’ guarantee you will not expect it to break down after 3 years. For crown and bridgework we take 2 years guarantee, while they are expected to serve you perfectly for about 15 years. The reason for the limits in guarantee is that the person’s oral hygiene and lifestyle greatly influence oral health – so if you take good care of your new teeth you can expect them to last for decades.
How can I be sure that I get the result what I expect?
Before your new crowns, bridges or veneers are fitted the dentist will place them and you can check them in the mirror. If you are pleased with what you can see, your nice new teeth will be fitted but if there is anything you wish to get corrected we will be happy to do it for you. Any corrections can be done in a few hours in the dental lab and we will be ready to arrange it for you.
It is also possible to get your new teeth fitted with temporary cement, which dissolves in about 3-4 months. After the cement has weakened and your crown can be removed you can ask the dentist for any correction (colour, shape, form) or get it fitted permanently. If you frequently come to Budapest it can be a good option as it allows you a few months to decide if you are absolutely happy with the result.
